Walt Disney World® resort announces date-based tickets and pricing

September 24, 2018 | Allison Gibbs

On October 16, 2018, guests will be able to purchase Walt Disney World® theme park tickets with pricing based on the date they're expecting to visit. This update applies to both single day and multi-day tickets. The pricing for multi-day tickets will be based on your arrival date.

Guests will use an interactive calendar that will show the different pricing options for different dates allowing guests to view the pricing for the entire month selected. One of the changes includes a tighter range in which guests will be able to use your tickets. Currently, guests have a 14-day window to use all days on the tickets before expiration, starting with the date the ticket is first used. In the update, guests have a limited range based on the number of days on the ticket.

There will be a Flexible Date Ticket option available. Guests will still have the option to add both the Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus options.

Confused yet? Below is a video released by Disney to share the updates in planning.

From my perspective, this just adds another layer to your planning, but the reward could be well worth it. Disney developed this system by using consumer data. By taking a glance at a high level, you'll be able to tell when Disney expects the crowds to be at their highest by the way the dates are priced. If you have some flexibility in your travel dates, this will allow you to take advantage of that information. On the other hand, this hurts those travelers that don't have the flexibility.

Your Disney® Vacation Planner will be able to help you navigate all of these changes and provide guidance on what to do moving forward.
